How to manage a project?
• Take ownership for your project.
• Develop a “Statement Of Work”.
1. “Statement of work” should include the following:
• Purpose
1. Background: why the project was initiated?
What happens if it’d not be done?
2. Scope of work: what you will do – a brief
statement describing the major work to be performed.
3. Strategy: how you plan to perform the work.
• Objectives
i. These are the end results to be achieved by the project.
ii. Each objective should include:
• Statement
• Measures
• Specifications
2. Meet with advisor to discuss and revise the “Statement of Work”.
• Good communication with your advisor is essential
• Make your long term goals clear.
3. Develop work breakdown structure and timeline for key events.
Start with broad work assignments.
Break them down into tasks.
Divide these into discrete sub-tasks.
4. To be mentored well. should have the following:
- Foresight.
- roactivity.
- Probing.
- Respect.
